Education is a top priority of Namibia, and over half of all Peace Corps volunteers in the country work towards this aim. The Kavango region of Namibia has the lowest computer to student ratio in the country and Kavango CHAT hopes to change this. Specifically, rural schools in Kavango are particularly lacking. Our charity is looking to raise money abroad in order to purchase computers from a Namibian organization, (SchoolNet Namibia.) In addition, printing technologies such as photocopiers are needed as many circuits in the region are without a functioning unit.
Currently, Kavango CHAT has identified the technology needs for three schools and one teaching resource center. Our immediate computer and copier goals would benefit more than 1000 students and 100 teachers directly. SchoolNet Namibia offers many viable options for technology development in the Kavango, but schools and communities lack the capital resources to acquire them. SchoolNet also provides tech support and training on all of the computers they sell. With these factors in mind, Kavango CHAT hopes to provide the missing piece of the puzzle and use donor support to make the region's technology goals a reality.
